p1174 code and misfire code

I was driving yesterday and my check engine light came on, so went up to advance auto parts and had the code read. One code said that i had a misfire on cylinder 1 and the other code did not have a description but it gave me the p1174 code. i looked around yesterday and saw that it could be in injector issue. I know there are threads on here about this but im trying to figure out where to start. Im a college kid so im on a very tight budget. I just need to know where to start or if its actually the injector. should i try checking the plug? where should i start?

The two codes are quite likely related - you can try swapping the sparkplug from #1 cyl to another cylinder, and swap the coil from #1 cyl to yet another cylinder, to see if the misfire moves.

However I think it likely is the injector for cyl #1 - read https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...ighlight=P1174 (see Smoothhhr's posting on page 1) for more info that will help you out on changing the injector if you go that route.

If the plugs have never been changed - with 144,000 miles, they are overdue for a swap out.

If you read the link I posted for you, you would see that SmoothHHR said it couldn't have been easier. Post no. 9 in that thread.
