And save your receipt, so you can get reimbursed by GM. You should have heard about the special extended warranty by now.

I just had the same thing happen to me today with my 07 HHR. Drove the car about 2 miles down the road and the words "Power Steering" appear on my display. No codes. I'm guessing that this power steering motor everyone is referring to is actually the Power Steering Control Module?? That's how it's worded in my Haynes manual. Fuse was good, but I reseated it just the same. But 60 amps?? Really?? That's the biggest fuse in the engine fuse block. I guess I'm lucky in one respect that my car has 154k miles on it, and up until recently it's been pretty much trouble free other than the usual stuff.

Just saw a thread about a recall for 2014, but a mod stated that my year car was covered by an extended warranty??

I'm gonna call the number for Chevy in the recall notice tomorrow.

Just a little update, I called the number listed on the website and registered a claim. Someone was supposed to call me back, but never did. The power steering was fine for about a month but cut out on me again this morning. I called the number again, telling them I never received a return call the the first time I called and the customer service rep conferenced me in with the local GMC dealership and we set up an appt for next Friday. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

Having the same issue with my 2006 HHR with only 60, 000 KMS!!!! Power steering just cuts out, usually at a very dangerous time like on a hair pin turn or off ramp on highway. Changed the fuse as recommende, helped for 2 weeks and again happening randomly. tried Chev Canada, had a call, they had no idea there were any issues????????? What a load of crap!!!! Today tried Capital GMC in Edmonton, they were very uncomfortable in discussion and then after 10 mins and placing me on hold....hung up. No one at Chev is going to be accountable, they are really an undercutting organization! they care not!

I have had the steering motor changed twice now , I also have a letter from GM Canada indicating it’s an extended policy as long as I own the HHR.

Where did you have replaced and what was the cost? Did you have to pay big bucks to have them diagnose and where did you get a letter?

They won't do a thing for me, mine is an 06 and all they keep telling me is that they are not aware of such an issue!

and this text text in the GM link

Depending on the vehicle, GM will replace free of charge either the power steering motor, the steering column, the power steering motor control unit or a combination of the steering column and the power steering motor control unit. Customers who previously paid for repairs of these parts would be eligible for reimbursement.

In addition, 309,160 non-turbocharged Chevrolet HHRs from the 2006-2008 model years (and several hundred 2009 models) and 96,324 Saturn IONs from the 2003 model year that are not subject to these recalls will be given lifetime warranties for replacement of the electronic power steering motor.

x2 what OLDBLUE says - make sure you print off that info from GM - and remember the replacement is covered under an EXTENDED WARRANTY, not a recall.

Note what Oldblue posted from that GM posting - the wording and coverage is important:

"In addition, 309,160 non-turbocharged Chevrolet HHRs from the 2006-2008 model years (and several hundred 2009 models) and 96,324 Saturn IONs from the 2003 model year that are not subject to these recalls will be given lifetime warranties for replacement of the electronic power steering motor."

Has the ignition switch recall been done?

Tell them to seek out Technical Service Bulletin 07-02-32-007B and GM bulletin #14119
