I think it's part of the shifter assembly. Lots of threads on replacing those. But I am not even sure that bulb is servicable like a park lamp bulb would be. To tell you the truth I never gave any notice to a bulb when a shifter assembly was taken out.

I never noticed that it was illuminated by anything other than the headliner light.

There is no bulb listed for the shifter assembly, and none shown on the parts breakdown either. As Don pointed out, illumination comes from the LED "mood light" in the headliner.

Here's the GM parts breakdown.....

I went outside last night and looked at mine! It does light up and the light does adjust with the dimmer wheel! 843 I also looked at your link and do not see a light ,would be interesting to see if there is one inside ,inquiring minds want to know :)..

Don't know what year the OP has, but my 2009 FSM has both an electrical diagram showing a bulb for the shifter in the Interior Lighting section AND a drawing about where the bulb is on the auto shifter. It is a bulb too, not an LED like most of the dash lighting. No mention of just what type of bulb it is.

prndl bulb

Thanks everyone for your quick response
Interesting though because the first visit to the dealer I was told there was no light. But I know I could always see shift lever position in the dark because it was lit up. After recent service it went dark and I thought there might be a connection. After speaking/complaining to the service manager I was told yes there is a bulb and hence the $55.00 repair estimate.
It is a 2007 model
I guess some more digging is required.

It is rather easy to pop the bezel and then the console off. I think they both just snap in, no screws. $55 is probably 1/2 hour labor.

I still just have never noticed it being lit up in 4 1/2 years with a 2008 6 months 2011.

And now you know how many old farts are here that recognize Green Acres references.
