shifting button

chevy 2006 HHR
i have a problem with the shifter, it's button that you push to shift is in. so without pushing the button you can shift into any gear. also the key will not come out of the ignition.
but i know how to get that out.

Try typing "key stuck" into the search box, one of the links will be this: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...uck-fix-52950/. While this may not be your exact problem you may get some insight.

I would give your dealer a call and ask about it. I have a 2008 and received a letter in Dec 2014 which stated if I can not remove the key from the ign switch of my 2008 Chvy HHR after putting the shifted into park, that GM will repair it for no charge. This covers that problem for 15 yrs from the date it was put into service. Maybe it is not covered for all model years. This is not a recall but at the bottom of the letter it says. GM Recall Number:14632

i had the ignition switch replaced, the recall
but it did not help. the button is still stuck in and the key is still stuck.
and all i got from the dealer was we can look at it.
why didn't they look at it when they had it. GEEZ.
i can also shift without pressing the brake and i can shift into any gear which could be scary if i bump it into reverse.

They can only fix what you ask them to fix.

If you didn't notice these problems, why would the porter notice?

Call the Chevrolet Customer Assistance Center at 1.800.222.1020. They can better inform you as to what is covered and inform the dealer also. Many dealers don't know, or claim they don't know anything about this extended coverage. I suspect that most do but some charge the owner and bill it to GM too so they get paid twice.
