Catalytic Convertor

i had a noise with my 2007 2.2 LS HHR in the silencer due to a break.
i went to a mechanic, he removed the the catalytic convertor and put another one, after two days the service light went on, is there any way to shut that light off.
I changed the oxygen sensor and problem persist.
I checked the car program, it only say i have a problem with my catalytic convertor.

HHR in Iraq? Where do you get parts?

If it took two days for the light to come on, the converter was probably ok. Did you get a code for the oxygen sensor? Was it reading rich or lean? Did the light go out for a while after the oxygen sensor was changed or wasn't it reset?

From Iraq, that's interesting. Didn't realize they had American cars there. That's neat.

You need to replace the catalytic convertor with a good after market one or fact. parts I seen the cheap convertors fail when the car checks convertor proformance. Unless the o2 sensors are realy messed up the convertor is about the only thing that can set that code. I have no idea about irag but in the states the convertors are covered for 8 years 80.000.

You can usually (not always) clear the codes by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or more. The problem is that if there is an issue, you're only masking it. You'll know for sure if the code comes back.

I want to mask it, because i will not buy a new catalytic convertor just to see this light went off.
my point is if there is another problem i cant see what it is.

Your local dealership should be able to diagnose the problem ..... We had a high flow cat installed and it triggered a CEL! Our mechanic was able to by-pass the error function for the rear O2 sensor in which it now tells the computer of no issues and everthing has been ok sense !
