Rattles

My 06 HHR has always had rattles in front and rear. But they are getting louder. I have tighten up all the bolts I could find. Dealer is no help because of coarse out of warranty. I hate to spend money to replace struts if thats not the problem. also was thinking about front struut bearing plates. Has anyone had the same problem?/ If so whats the Fix? Thanks

Try looking at the sway bar bushing first. They usually are the first to go and the easiest to replace and the cheapest. I crawled underneath and lifted the sway bar with a big flat head screwdriver and it had a lot of play. I think they're $14 at the dealership.

Good luck

Tie rod end links

I'm going to install new greseable sway bar bushings and noticed someone recommened also installing new tie rod end links. Is this the same as a tie rod end? I had never heard of them called tie rod end links. thanks for any help.

What you're thinking of are called "sway bar end links", they are utterly unrelated to the tie rod ends. Give the following thread a read on the issue and the best solutions found by folks here.

Hope this helps, as an aside, I used the grease-able Moog parts and the "HHR clunk" has been banished from both my '06 and '07 HHR's.

My rattle from the rear was the rear door latch assembly. Once that was replaced no more rear rattle.

No movement. Door closed solid. But still rattled. Once I told dealer about it, they replaced latch assembly and rattle is gone.
