P1174

ok, so tonight my check engine light came on.

I pulled over, and scanned for codes using my scanguage II, and the code thrown was P1174.

for an 08 it says its "Fuel Trim Cylinder Balance".

Not exactly sure what this means.

anyways, I cleared the code and and continued on my way. I was about 20 miles from home when this happened, and the check engine didn't come on again.

I have noticed that my economy isnt as good as it usually is. I usually get around 37 MPG @ 55. it dropped to 35 MPG.

I use the unleaded plus (kwik trip)for gas, and haven't had any problems till now.

about two tanks ago, I tried "sea foam" and didn't seem to have any problems.

Is this something i should worry about? something i should have the dealer check out? I'm sitting at just over 30K on this car.

Thanks guys

Bad O2 sensor or cats. The seafoam MAY have KO'd them, but you'll have to have the dealer or your mechanic check them out.

You're still under warranty. Use it.

In the past two days, the check engine light hasn't come back on after i cleared the codes with my scanguage.

Do you think there is still cause for concern, or do you think its alright?

I havn't had time to take it into the dealer to get it checked on. (gotta love going back to school)

Thanks

P1174 is usually set by dirty/restricted fuel injectors. Since you cleared the codes there is no sense taking it to the dealer unless it returns. If there are no codes the dealer will do no further diagnostics.
