If you mean that shifter knob, here is the procedure.

Floor Shift Control Knob Replacement
Removal Procedure
Important: Place the shift control in NEUTRAL before attempting to remove the shift knob screw.
Pull the shift knob bezel (1) down to expose the shift knob retaining screw.
Remove the shift knob retaining screw (1).
Remove the shift knob (1) and bezel (2) from the shift control lever.
Installation Procedure
Important: Place the shift control in NEUTRAL before attempting to install the shift knob screw.
Install the bezel (2) and shift knob (1) to the shift control lever.
Install the shift knob retaining screw (1).
Tighten the screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
Secure the shift knob bezel (1) to the shift knob.

Tip:
The Console shift bezel is replaceable on cars equipped with automatic transmissions. Cars equipped with manual transmissions the bezel is not serviceable. The shifter bezel and front floor console plate must be removed as one assembly. The console shift bezel retainers must be released from the underside of the console upper trim plate.

How do get that piece out? Does it just pop off like the chrome bezel been trying to figure this out but afraid I might break it.

I want to change mine too some day...
I want to get the cool flame ball shifter for automatics....it lights up...great info here and I hope I can do that one I get it and I am hoping it will be compatible...here's the website http://www.flameball.com/HomePage.htm?src=overture

One note on this, which is great and a BIG help............
I found that you have to actually turn the chrome post one half turn to be able to lower it to get to the retaining screw. This was also the case for the leather boot on the new model.
