Is the invoice the dealership shows you the true invoice?

Salesman showed me the invoice for the HHR I am interested in....this is how he broke it down as far as selling price

20128.68 Invoice
618.15 Holdback

19510.53 (Invoice minus Holdback)
1500.00 Rebate

18010.53 Net cost

18296 Selling price

285.47 Net profit for the dealer

Now I have heard stories on dealers keeping 2 sets of invoices..one they show the customer and one that they have that shows the true numbers....I questioned the salesman(who was a great guy...former military) without being rude mind you on that I have heard of "old wives tales" about the invoices...he went to a web site and showed me how he could look up any invoice on any HHR in the system and see what each and every dealer has paid for any vehicle...what this means I have no idea but he assured me that all the numbers he showed were legit and honest

Any advice froma anyone who might have knowledge of this? I really like the car a lot and if my trade was not 1300 upside down I probably would be an HHR owner now.....not trying to get blood from a stone but don't want to be taken for any extra if I don't need to be.

Her are some more numbers..

This is how he broke it down for me...MSRP on HHR is 21195

18296 selling price including 1500 rebate so 1399 off msrp before rebate

8750 trade

9546 Selling price after trade

10000 payoff

19546 new price

-465 GM Card $$

-250 Bonus GM Card $$ for test drive

-1000 Military Incentive

-500 Trade-in Incentive

Total Price for HHR 17331

(then add in crooks 279 doc fee )

So Out the door 17610 for Golden Teal LT1 with Leather (Medium Cashmere),Chrome package,ABS w/traction control,Fogs, running boards, 6 CD changer, Premium mats and splash guards

So...as far as being shown that invoice and these numbers...yes? No?

and btw...the Golden Teal is stunning in the sunlight...what a great color!

If it shows the holdback then to the best of my knowledge this is the actual invoice, not the "show the public" invoice.

Except for the doc fee it sounds like a good deal to me. We paid 1.5% over invoice (minus the holdback) for Bonnie's. Doc fees were $50.

the invoice they show is if they were to buy just one car not the one for the lot

That seems like the actual invoice. There is NO money in selling new cars!

I am not for sure on this but I thought that manufactor reimburses dealer for certain rebates. So dealer might get the 1500 back.

True. That's what our salesman has told us many times.

They make their money selling used cars.

Actually the invoice that was shown to me was for the HHR I drove...I was just wondering if there was another "hidden" invoice....car's brakes seemed messed up as there was a lot of pulsing...mentioned it to the dealer when I got back...he had it checked out and turns out rust on rotors was causing the judder...took it out again and the brakes seemed ok.....guess rust can cause that?

Hmmm....liked it quite a bit...just deciding if I want to take that much of a hit on my trade...lol

I really like the leather over the cloth interior in the HHR...heated seats are nice...wish it was ebony but the cashmere does brighten uo the interior a bit lol

Goose just do it! Look at your pics of that Teal HHR is like looking into a mirror except mine has ebony cloth interior. I don't think you'll be sorry for purchasing it because they are a fantastic car. I currently have a little over 2000.00 miles on mine and Im enjoying 28+ miles per gallon some city mostly freeway driving( I drive like Im going somewhere too) so Im sure I could get better MPG if I tried. Oh by the way mne is a 2.4 auto and I do run premium fuel in it. Hope this helps in yor decesion making.

Goose...

the rust on the brakes that caused the "shudder" is called "lot rot". It is one of GM's major concerns regarding rotor issues.

You might ask to see the work order, just to make sure it was done properly.
