Odometer Not advancing
Hi, This is my 1st post here, I have been lurking the forums for 4-5 years, Just purchase our 2nd HHR, a 2011 and may have an issue. Purchased with an oil leak, found it to be the crankcase leaking, R&Red the engine (thru the top) and resealed the crankcase, runs fine no leak, finally drove it and noticed that the Odometer has not gained any miles. Everything else on the instrument cluster works correctly. Has it been hacked? Any GM techs here that have seen this issue before? Local dealer admits to no previous experience. Hope someone has some experience. Thanks. Steve

The BCM stores the odometer data and sends it to the I/P via serial data.
A GM dealer should be able to tell if the 2 readings agree. If it has been hacked the DMV will get involved, they can tell when it was done since it is a requirement to record the odometer reading upon sale. California has big time enforcement on odometers and the Feds too.
I bet the instrument panel was replaced by an amateur. The VIN needs to be updated.

With a Tech2 or similar that can read and write ti the IPC, I guess it does not say.
However, I bet it is illegal to sell the car in that condition. The DMV gets touchy about odometer cheating. In some instances you need certificates to change an IPC that stores the odo data, on HHR it is stored in the BCM.

That is why I took it to the dealer, Need it to work correctly. Hopefully we will see what the correct mileage is, and then act accordingly. Thanks for your help.
BTW, Do we know any good GM techs in Southern California? Thanks
