Shift knob replacement? Anyone done it yet?

Just curious if anyone has replaced the stock shift knob on their 5 speed? How the heck do you get the stock knob off? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

There are a couple of members that have done this. You can try using the search button at the top of the page or wait until someone chimes in with their advice!

Welcome to our Forum! I see your in Southern California, I go to the SD area quite often, perhaps I'll see you around!

thanks, just let me know when you are in the area and we can hook up. I just bought my HHR last week, I'll be posting some pics soon. Nice meeting you, and thanks for the tips.

i cant remember for sure but i think its some plastic clips holding it around where the boot meets the knob (been a while since i did mine), its prolly gonna be hard to get a aftermarket knob to work since there are no threads on the stock shifter,

just put a short throw up there youll love it

As Crowbar said your twist the top of the shift boot to release it from the knob. At the bottom of the knob are 4 white tabs pull up on the tabs to release the knob and pull the knob off.
The lever is 12mm. I put a Hurst T-handle on with M12x1.75 thread same as the Mustang.

after utting the lever down 1 1/2 inches.

Try an O-ring on the lever.
