I have a smell in the engine compartment that smells kind of like the serpentine belt is hot. The belt looks OK. It runs fine and there are no unusual noises. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yep, had that too. Turned out to be one of those white shopping bags that float in the air and seem to play chicken with you on the freeway in your lane. It melted on the exhaust pipe and even after scraping remains off, it stunk a long time.
Beware of the shopping bag, if it goes under the HHR and doesn't appear in the rear mirroe....you got it and you will know it soon.
