Mine is positioned for easy stealing.
I have the Navigon 8100T that has the antenna in the stalk that the LCD mounts to. If I didn't use the stalk, I would have to install an external antenna in order to reposition the unit on the dash.
It is big, voice activated, and presents lane control views. I hwill have to hide the 12v plug somewhere. Maybe go thru the side panel next to door or maybe thru the base of the pillar?

I use a Panavise Custom bracket available from Panavise, for around 25.00. The part number is 751102305. I actually have two of them and have my GPS and my sirius radio mounts. Requires no drilling or anything:

I just found a company called ProClip, which offers a model-specific mount, that you combine with a swivel mount that fits your particular GPS.
For the HHR, their mount snaps into the gap between trim pieces to the right of the radio. Fits easily and does not look as though it will vibrate or come loose. The only disadvantage I see is that I will have to swivel the GPS slightly to insert or eject a CD. The mounting position puts the center of the screen just below the main radio knobs. That's a little lower than most of us are used to, but a spot where there's not so much sun glare on the GPS display.
Cost me $30 for the mount to fit the HHR, and another $35 for the piece that fits the TomTom One. Will send a photo when I can.

I have one of those beanbag type weighted mounts, just throw it up on the dash, usually to the left of the instrument pod.
Mine gets used in many vehicles, so any permanent or semi-permanent mounts are out of the question.

Hah. I would not have thought the beanbag type mount would work on a dash as sloping as the HHR's.
Main reason I decided on this one is to get the glare off the display. Just installed it yesterday, have yet to use it, and it's been cloudy/raining. So I don't know how well that works yet. But it does hold the TomTom steady, which in itself is a plus.

If it's not easy to use, my wife will never touch it - that means she's not going to mess around with mounting or plugging in.
Her new 5" garmin is going into the upper cubby - velcroed to the rear. I'm going to make an access hole for the power cord, and run it behind the dash and connect it to a switched power supply - I'll probably just wire in a 12V outlet so I don't have to cut the stock garmin cord - it has the traffic antenna built into it and I don't think replacements are easy to come by yet.
To use she'll just have to pop the cubby cover - if she decides she doesn't want to drive around with it open, maybe she'll advance to using the mount - but I doubt it.
