Power steering stops while I'M driving

Why would my power steering just stop as I am driving and then after I put it in park and restart the engine reset and then turn off again? I already replaced the fuse for the EPS.I have a 2009 HHRLS, This happened 4 times today and I never had a problem with this car in 4 yrs...I love my HHR.

May have a power steering motor failing. How many miles on the car? Was the eps fuse blown?

Known issue, overheating EPS motor. Check with your GM dealer service dept., it may be covered.

The only thing covered by the Stealer is your check book.

I have the same thing on a 2006. Power steering does not work. it would work if I pulled the fuse and put it back in. Now it out 100% of the time. I searched for answers but there is not a clear concise solution I have found. If some one has found a solution please post.

Actually this has been discussed a lot previously - it's your power steering motor that needs replacement. There is a "How-to" article on replacing it - it's a good writeup - and is easy to do, and the parts are cheap.

In canada this has been addressed by a special 10yr replacement plan on some vehicles by VIN, US may be different. The electric power steering motor has a thermal shutdown feature, when the motor gets too hot it shuts off temporarily. This may be due to failing motor.
