A/C Compressor blew up

My a/ccompressor on my 2006 HHR LT locked up today causing the drive belt to break. An underneath examination revealed greenish colored oil coming out of the compressor.

Anyone know what the cost might be to repair?

Thanks.

TM

the green oil is the freon. It's died green so you can find the leak easier.

Cost will be a new compressor and labor to install. I'm sure somebody will know those values.

A new compressor from the dealer is around $600 plus labor. Just guessing here, but you'd be looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of $900.

A used one is around $300 I think, might be able to find some cheaper.

it restores my faith

I'm glad to know that some parts are priced reasonably and available from recyclers. They must not fail very often to be priced so low!

Thanks for your input. It looks like there are a lot of low mileage ones available on eBay. Some even have a warranty.
