Hey 1151, I guess spending part of Black Friday at the dealership isn't much fun, but you could be getting trampled by shoppers. Hope they get you back on the road soon, let us know what they found....and take it easy.

Well, according to the dealership, it was the "vented oil cap" on top of the block that went bad. So for now I have a "temp cap" until they can fix it up fully on Tuesday.
Ideas guys? Anyone believe them?

Hmmmmm, well that's a new one for sure. I'll have to sit down with the service manuals again and see if they're full of it or not. At least they got you back on the road for the weekend and shopping.

Well 1151, now things make more sense after plowing through the manuals. I think they mean your oil cap became vented like maybe due to a crack or pinhole. This would allow the engine to pull a vacuum through the oil cap and this would cause an out of range code to set on the engine oil pressure. Because the crankcase is a sealed system, with the exception of the PCV valve which allows crankcase fumes to be drawn into the engine for combustion. With a leak in the oil cap the ECM was probably seeing an initial drop in oil pressure, setting the code and triggering the "reduced engine power" message. So in so many words, they aren't full of it, it seems you just had one of those weird problems that crop up. I'd say it was a good catch on their part. Have a good one!

Here's the clincher.. when vi bought it, it didn't have the "oil fill neck" that's according to the tech, and parts guy. So they put a temp cap over the oil hole on the block.

Sounds like a strange problem not sure I beleve that yet. I do know that it is a Holiday and most of the senior auto techs are on vacation. So you may have some of the newer less experienced techs working on your car. that also holds true for the service staff so things may not have been translated to you properly.

Many computer chips operate on 5 volts. The easiest and cheapest way to drop 12 volts to 5 volts is with a resistor based system but it also draws current even when the GPS isn't using any. It's like the way your cell phone charger draws current even when the phone isn't plugged in.

I dont remember now if i had a click or not when turning the key;

Sat for 5 minutes contemplating a tow truck, and then it started; "Reduced Power" message went away but Check engine Lite is on.
