Disappointed With My Hhr..any Suggestions!!

IN ADVANCE THANKS YOU FOR YOUR TIME, I WILL TRY TO MAKE IT AS SHORT AS I CAN.
THIS IS OUR 2ND. HHR IN LESS THAN MONTH AND HALF...WITH OUR 1ST HHR WE WERE GETTING 27MPG MIX AND 34 MPG ON HIGHWAY. 2007 2.4 LS.(WE SOLD IT)BUT LOVED IT, DIDN'T LIKE THE LIGTH GRAY SEATS
OUR NEWEST 2007 2.4 LT...WE'VE HAD THIS FOR 10 DAY AND WE ARE GETTING ACCORDING TO THE DIC 19.5 MIX AND DROVE IT THIS MORNING ON HIGHWAY AND GOT 22.5 MPG, I JUST DON'T GET IT (SAME ENGINE), WHAT I NOTICED THOUGH IS THE SPEED AVERAGE ON THE DIC CHANGED TOOOO SLOW, SO WHAT I THOUGTH WAS, IF THE ECM IS GETTING WRONG INFO FROM Xs INPUT SENSOR MAYBE IS SENDING OUT WRONG INFO ALSO, DO YOU THINK IT COULD BE? NO SERVICE ENGINE SOON LITE EITHER, MY BIG DILEMMA, WE BOUGHT IT USED, IT HAS 35600 MILES, SHOULD I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER BEFORE THE UGLY 36000, ANY ONE EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE.....WE LOVE THE HHR

Did you confirm the DIC stated mileage with manual calculations?

Otherwords, are you really getting the 22.5 MPG as indicated, on the highway.

yeah, i would run a tank on it and compute it by hand just to see if the DIC is way off, or if you are getting that mileage. If you are getting that take it in and see. My guess is though the dealer will say tough luck since that is in the wide range they give it for mileage.

There are some people on here that get amazing and hard to believe mileage and others which is way on the low end. Are you driving the new one any different?

I'm only through half a tank on mine that i just got last wednesday and i think i am at 22.8 on the DIC average right now with a mix of mostly city and some highway. I've heard they get better as you get more miles on them though so i am optimistic.

Also, if you don't mind, can you not type in all caps. It makes it extremely hard to read your post like that.

Try resetting the average MPG on the DIC and compare it with your own calculations.

Here we go...some folks will disagree with this...but I'm posting anyway...go out and get a 16 oz can of SeaFoam. Pour it in the tank with premium gas...drive 250 miles...THEN start checking the MPG. You just might see some improvement.

I have a 2007 2LT...I get 36.5 MPG at 55 MPH...just did it again today driving 145 miles. AND I figured it manually and came out the same as the DIC = 36.5 MPG.

I love my HHR.

Just to back you up....I did disagree with seafoam...However if you are experiencing a real problem, I thinks it's worth a try. Obviously most of the mileage variables are (as someone form this forum put so nicely) between the steering wheel and seat. You are the same dude, with supposedly the same vehicle getting very very very different mileage. For once in my life I believe that you should blame the hhr. But heres what you do to save a little frustration. Get on the highway, drive for about 15 minutes at 60+mph....slow down to 55mph and set the cruise (pick a long VERY flat area to do this), reset the avg speed, and avg mpg, and odometer b at THIS TIME, not before. Tell me what the numbers that you saw during, and at the end of 10 miles of driving. Just pull over to the shoulder, and write it down (or have a friend..lol don't crash). Final avg speed (better be about 55), final average mpg, and distance traveled. Keep the dic on avg mpg and tell me what ypu saw while driving, slowly dropping, or rising...etc...

Let me know.

You can also use Lucas Upper Cilinder Lubricant - the complete fuel treatment.

I'm using it since a few years and this stuff works it improves gas mileage!

I was getting 19.5 MPG from my 2008 LT2 with 2.4 liter engine. I switched to synthetic oil 0W30 and I'm now getting 23 MPG. Other things have happened too, namely school is out, less people on the road, I'm much more aware of my driving style and it's affect on MPGs. I'm also averaging a higher average MPH per week, and oil is going to affect that figure.

I can't really comment on the Crap MPG. However if ur only avg 19mpg try resetting or sea foam.
I'm getting 26.5mpg on my 08 2.4 and i only have 750 miles on it.
