Question Radio with XM, but no XM

Hi all.
I'm the proud owner of a 2006 Daytona Blue LT2 HHR.
Just got it yesterday. I'm so in love with it!

My question is.... I have the audio unit that has CAT button but no XM. Is it possible to use the connector (if it has one) of the XM system to install a MP3 player to it and not use the front AUX input jack?
My other car has a Pioneer head unit and I used the XM connector on the back to connect a RCA cable to it.

There's an adapter can you can buy that Best Buy sells thats called Audiovox XMDirect Smart Digital Adapter for In-Dash Decks with Radio Data Service. Unfortunately every Best Buy doesnt carry it but look online and you'll be able to get it there. I havent bought it yet but eventually I will

Here's a thread that might help answer some of the questions it looks like you have. There are links to the XM site which shows what tuners are compatible with what radios. I'm not a big audio person...but more of a search mongrel.

Hope this thread contains some information that will be helpful.

I was at an Al and EDs on Friday getting window tint. They had a connector to hook up iPods to GM radios. It let you see the song title on the radio display and control the iPod from the radio. If I remember it is a PAC.
Hope that helps.

There is now a factory type install for XM ready 2006-2006 HHR radios. It is a XM Direct product #GM-XMGM4. $199 and a current $30 rebate. Find it here: http://store.xmfanstore.com/xmdirect...les-xmgm4.html

Uses factory connectors and supplied tuner, wiring and antenna.

2009 HHR XM Install

Just found this package for those that have the HHR base Head Unit with the "CAT" button but no XM radio:

http://replacementradios.com/product...roducts_id=516

It includes everything you need to get XM pumping through the OEM H.U. It also gives you a second AUX input or iPod connection in case you need it. (Best suggestion would be to hardwire a DVD player so you can always watch a DVD or calm the kids down in the backseat, lol)

I saw Scosche makes a adapter that plugs into the xm module harness, I saw a video on youtube.

No, you have to have the GM XM radio module installed and functional in order for the Scosche device to work... but it's a nice deal for those already outfitted with the XM factory installed!
