How do I replace defective yaw rate/lateral accelerometer?

I just got back from my dealer from having the ignition switch/keyset recall performed and had them check why my ESC light was on. They said it was a defective yaw rate/lateral accelerometer code C0292. I've never heard of that! Where is this thing and how hard is it to replace? If it matters I have a '09 1LT. They want $385 to do it for me. That seems awfully high! Help!

I "think" that has to do with the airbag/rollover module. That price sounds right, the part goes for around $300 and then it needs TechII programing. I had to do that when my side curtain airbags deployed in a misguided attempt to save my life (insurance paid).

Ebay has used ones listed for $75 or so - with a 120 day warranty.

When it comes to SRS components, I'd skip the used parts and go with new OEM parts. But that's just me, if the parts whopper is referencing are properly tested and certfied, then you can save some scratch.

Remember, these components can save your life in the unlikely even they're ever needed, so you need to quantify budgetary restraints vs. peace of mind.

P.S. to the forum! Wish the circumstances could be better, but let us know how you make out OK.

BUT, a GM dealer must do the programing. A new firmware needs to be installed.

Oh, and did anyone mention the felony involved for selling the car unfixed?

GM also has an air bag problem. They don't include the HHR but they also tried to exclude the HHR from the ignition and power steering recall. I'd ask to speak to the GM rep and mention taking the issue to NHTSA.

So do Nissan, Toyota and every maker that bought the bags from the same manufacture. But, that has to do with the BAGS, not the computer systems. The article linked has to do with the side curtain bags only. The side curtain bags were the subject of an HHR recall in 2007 (maybe?). And this article is talking about errant "service airbag" messages due to a mucked up connector NOT a bad yaw sensor.
