I had another oddity ESC & ABS

Today I was sitting waiting for a flagger to let me past some roadwork and the ESC and ABS lights lit up along with the DIC warnings and chimes.

As it happens I was recording live OBDII data at the time, no codes of any sort recorded, no odd readings. The engine did not even stutter, no vacuum type noises from the booster, brake fluid full. 4 new hubs (more than 1,000 miles on them now).

Turned the key off, then back on. Lights went off and stayed off.

This happened after sitting still, on level ground, foot on brake, trans in gear for about 3 minutes. I do that and more everyday in traffic. Later in the day I slammed on the brakes on a wet patch and the ABS activated like it should (thankfully).

Once again, I have had a symptom that I previously pooh-pooh ed. I am becoming a believer in the Goonies. I do not believe I have anything to worry about, must be just a random fault.

The more I think, the more logical it seems that my recent P2270 that cleared itself may be related. I think I will be checking the vacuum hose to the brake booster soon.

Just a hint on your most recent issue, Don........

Someone told me GM has experienced problems with certain types of aftermarket "plug ins" that are continuously plugged into the data port. Sometimes the fault is erroneous codes.

There is supposed to be a letter going to dealers about this.

But that might not be your problem....just thought I would mention it.

Mine doesn't do ABS, so I'm not suspicious of it ,,,,,,yet. And it has been plugged in for a few months now, but not always connected via Bluetooth.

And they don't seem to be actual problems yet. I'm still waiting for the EVAP to run after clearing the P2270.

My thinking is that either could be caused by a manifold vac leak.

But, point taken.

During that Really cold snap I posted that my ABS ESC and Traction control service lights came on. I put it down to being so cold contacts came apart and some trash go in the connecter.
Since then it randomly would show same symptoms.
Since its been warm hasn't been alerting for 3 weeks.

Don, I had something very similar happen. I got a ECS and ABS not functioning warning at random. This was sometime in February while driving down the highway doing maybe 70 mph. I also noticed at my turn-off the RR blinker wasn't working. Can't say whether the two incidents were related but when I finally stopped I shut off the car and started it up again and the warning cleared, never to return. Since then I've had the computer read for codes and nothing was recorded. I've never disconnected the battery since I've owned it and have not experienced any electrical problems or other strange events.

Since I got a new battery I have not had the ABS & ESC/TC warning. BUT, today I suddenly started getting ESC warnings, several times!

I have done nothing yet. I'll check brake fluid and connectors &etc. in the A.M.

Checked brake fluid, OK.
Decided to change the oil, It REALLY needed changing. That may be the reason.

Electronic Stability Control. It attempts to keep the car from rolling over if it decides that the driver is too stupid to control it. Main inputs are the wheel speed sensors and the steering wheel angle sensor. It applies the brakes in an attempt to steer the car.

Just to add to donbrew's definition. I took this from my owners manual.

Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
The vehicle has an Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
system which combines antilock brake, and traction and
stability control systems that help the driver maintain
directional control of the vehicle in most driving
conditions.
When the vehicle is started and begins to move, the
system performs several diagnostic checks to ensure
there are no problems. The system may be heard or felt
while it is working. This is normal and does not mean
there is a problem with the vehicle. The system
should initialize before the vehicle reaches 20 mph
(32 km/h).
If the system fails to turn on or activate, the ESC/TCS
light comes on, and the ESC OFF and/or SERVICE ESC
message displays.
