I have an HHR SS with about 85K miles on it. I believe the recommended mileage for timing chain replacement is about 100K. Can anybody tell me if they have gone past this without any problems? I am hoping to go to 110K before I replace it.

I'm over 102,000 miles now, no issues, no chatter. Don't jinx me.

The last 30,000 miles are mine. I don't neglect the oil and filter changes.

There is no recommended interval. It is not a belt. Just be sensitive to new rattling noises.

I'm comfortable at changing the timing chain at 100,000 miles, cheap insurance and better then bent valves and damaged engine!

I tend to agree with the 100 K mark, but I have been really strapped for cash and was wondering about pushing it few extra. I was also looking for 100K + club members. I will be on guard for the any noises though. Finally, I was told by a friend who was a mechanic when the chain gets done its a good idea to change sprocket and the adjusters because he feels the sprocket tends to wear as well.

Always change the chain and guides and tensioner, they are in the kit!

Sweetie's 2003 Ecotec is at 235,000 miles on the original chain , sprockets and guides, new tensioner at 150,000. No noises, but I'm changing them next months.

~127k. I'm in week #1 of my 12mo warranty so not worried about it. With or without coverage though I'm especially listening at every cold start.

Just purchased from Chevy dealer. While not the best thing "ever", its under the Ally 12/12k program. If I change parts now, its on my dime. I was advised against putting in a preventative "repair" claim 4 days after purchase. lol.

On topic:
Both one independent shop as well as Chevy dealer recommend all components. Didn't want to touch it unless doing the whole works. Both mentioned that full chain failure is not common/certain but if any noise to sort it right away.

My 2010 HHR had 58,000 miles on it when I bought it, now at 224,000. I am assuming that the timing chain, tensioner, water pump and water pump chain all have the full 224,000 miles on them as they have not been touched since I started driving the car. I'm sure it is time to replace all of that but I don't think I'm the man for the job. Maybe if the engine was out of the car and sitting on a work bench. I shutter at the $1,000 estimate to have it done. No noises, no problems, I just know that those parts have gone above and beyond what is expected of them.
