GM Recalling 2006-2008 HHR's

GM recalling 180,000 Chevrolet HHRs

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/02/13/g...hevrolet-hhrs/

This was just issued:

Subject: Upcoming Noncompliance Recall 08016
Headliner Trim – Energy Absorption Capability
Message #: WIR20080485

GM SERVICE AND PARTS OPERATIONS
DCS1965
URGENT - DISTRIBUTE IMMEDIATELY

Date: January 31, 2008

Subject: Upcoming Noncompliance Recall 08016
Headliner Trim – Energy Absorption Capability

Models: 2006-2008 Chevrolet HHR

To: All Chevrolet Dealers

Attention: Dealer Operator, General Manager, Sales Manager, Service
Manager, Used Car Manager, Parts Manager and Warranty
Administrator

Based on information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the media may report that General Motors will be announcing a noncompliance recall involving certain 2006-2008 model year Chevrolet HHR vehicles.

Some vehicles not equipped with optional Roof Rail Air Bags, fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact." In tests, one of the upper interior occupant protection test points exceeded the Standard's requirement.

To correct this condition, dealers are to install an energy-absorbing plastic piece to the headliner trim.

A total number of 181,516 U.S. vehicles are involved. Based on expected parts availability, GM anticipates releasing the recall bulletin and mailing customer notification letters in late March 2008.

GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS) information for this recall will not be available until the recall bulletin is released to dealers.

END OF MESSAGE
GM SERVICE AND PARTS OPERATIONS

FYI, If this is like the Cobalt recall last year, dealers will be using a hot glue gun to install this piece between the headlining and the roof.

Fascinating stuff, thanks for the quick post and information!

If this same recall exists in Canada this will be the 8th time my headliner is coming down, what a hassle.

I was going to take mine in to complain about the headliner being noisy anyway. I guess they'll be pulling it down to fit this.

same here...seems like I am noticing a lot of people in cold climates complaining of the noise lately. I wonder if it is worse in the winter when the vehicle is frozen and not as noisy in warm weather?

Thanks, Chevymgr...that fits my vehicle, so I will have to go deal with our local Chevy dealer

my GF works for a GMC dealer, so they cant do it...but the Chevy dealer down the street can...and I fear the day I have to deal with them in person.

workmanship is
customer service is

This shouldn't fix any noises, but anything is possible. Also for everyone this recall is only if you DON'T have side impact curtain air bags. Parts will probably not be available for weeks also. The posted message was an FYI for dealers due to the fact that the media always announces recalls before the manufacturers have produced the parts, sent them to the dealers, reviewed the recall by GM legal departement for release and notified the affected customers.
