Disassembled Headlight

I've seen pictures of a Cobalt headlight but never an HHR, so hear it is. It's three main pieces like on Cobalts, but the turn signal is a little different. The amber piece is flat and fits over the chrome turn signal housing.

It wasn't really hard, but is was time consuming. I still have to open the other one up and mask it. Then sand, primer, and paint both.

Chrome will be black, tape will be chrome, no amber, and finish off with silverstar turn signal lamps.

the black paint that you will be using... is it any special style of paint as not to melt from the heat of the bulb? i have been thinking about doing the black style outline setup for a while, just too chicken

Yep. Tried 200 degrees for about 15 minutes. Nothing. 250 for about 30 minutes finally starting breaking it loose. Then I just started prying around the headlight, reheating, prying, etc. The sealant is like rubber when its cold, but evidently starts melting around 200-250.

It's just gloss black automotive paint that I'm using with a plastic adhesion promoter/primer. Shouldn't be any heat issues since none of the painted area will be hit directly by the bulb.

Kendall, I'll bet the parts you're going to do in gloss black would look good in body color...just a thought!
