dash cubby box thingy

my is just sitting in my dash cubby/glove box thingy. i plan to mount it in there and wire it inside the dash. i believe the safest place is in the bottom center of of the winshield , but that would be harder for me to reach. even with mine mounted where it is , it is still easy for me to loose track of what is going on in front of me , when trying to program it. the further it is away from the windshield the less safe it is.

I stick mine with the suction cup mount in the left corner of the windshield. It it isn't obstructing my vision in any way but it there for a quick eye glance if i need it. Plus it is in range if i need to reach forward and modify anything. I used the same spot on my wife's aveo, but since her windsheild is huge compared to ours, it is pretty far out of range.

I also just plug into the cig adapter and drape the cord. It goes with me to different cars so a perm. install is out, and i'm too cheap to buy another charger. If i were to hard install i would open up the dash, install a second cig adapter inside, and a switch on the console, run the wire up through the dash and either have it come out of the console for an easier stretch over, or go all the way to the pillar and have it come out. The battery on the tomtom isn't great so i like to have it plugged in.

He's my photo. And yes, i am driving 80, while passing a semi, and taking a photo (while getting 28mpg!). Most likely no hands on the wheel. I live dangerously...

Clever idea for the cubbyhole, but after looking at your's & suburbanjunior's mounting solutions I decided to follow suit and regain the storage space in the cubby

Mines in the same place, center of the dash like the 2 above. Easy to reach and can be pivoted around for the "co-pilots" use. I did wire in 2 outlets in the compartment behind it. One switched thru the key for the radar dector and one constant hot for the Garmin.

i really like that "clever mount" on/in the ebay link. but i do not like the $29. i'm thinking about puttn mine in there on top of a small peice of wood-so it can be seen- , with some velcro. my gps has some kind of battery or antenna thing that plugs into the bottom of it. this is widder than than most gps and this why i think it will work. i don't think most gps have this wide thing that plugs in the bottom and back. it is nextar w/backup cam. i'll post pix if i ever get to mount it. if you like this idea but your gps is not wide on bottom , you can make L shape out of wood , attach with velcro. edit - it was $29 canada$ = $23.47 us. still 2 much.
