HHR wheels: Yellowish stains

My 2006 HHR's stock wheels are showing some yellowish staining. (Man, it's like a tired pair of dentures!) I try but can't remove the stains with typical retail "wheel and tire" products. Any suggestions? Also, is this caused by oxidation, maybe chemical reaction of the brake dust? Ot did one of the wheel products cause the problem? (And maybe I missed a warning about this in the owner's manual!)

Without knowing which rims you have, it would be hard to comment.
Do you have rims with the hubcap type covers ?
Or, the mag style rims?

X2 on knowing what kind of wheels or wheel covers you have Morbius.

But my money is on brake dust, especially if you're the second owner by chance. The OEM pads on HHR's were dirty buggers, and they'd blacken the front wheels in short order. If not cleaned off promptly, brake dust is hell on any finish, and yellowish discoloration of the paint or clearcoat will occur.

I have the 16 inch Silver wheels and had a similar problem which was brake dust. I used Meguires All Wheel cleaner, the purple one. It's super strong and can't be left on for more then 30 seconds. Worked great!!

"Well you know Mr. Pine, some people think wooden legs belong on tables." The really way back machine.

The response to Joe Pine's "doesn't long hair belong on girls?" circa 1968.
