Just Curious ... HHR SS V/S Cobalt SS

I was just driving along @ 35 mph on a 2 lane side road yesterday that had a 35mph speed limit, and noticed a chevy something behind me.
All of a sudden he blew by me at approx 60+ mph and immediatly slowed down to 35 again.
About 1/2 mile ahead we both came to a stop light, and when I came up behind him I saw the Cobalt SS badge.
I think he just wanted to make a "Statement"

I got to thinking .. how does the HHR SS compare to the Cobalt SS in OA performance ??

Anybody ???

Modded to hell...... Cobalt

lighter smaller faster... Cobalt

only real factor is driver, but side by side... Cobalt. But who cares about racing your "cousin" Mustangs on the other hand... HHR

Even with weight matched up stock for stock the 5 speed HHR would get beat. Cobalts have a lower final drive ratio than the HHR, which helps their faster 0-60. I'm still waiting for someone to swap in a cobalt trans when their's is cooked. I believe BartSS swapped his non LS to LS. Wonder if he got his from a cobalt?

The Cobalt SS final drive is 3.82 and the HHR SS is 4.05 right?

So...How would the taller final drive ratio achieve a faster 0-60 if they were weight matched?

The shorter 4.05 gearing allows the HHR to be more competitive, not less.

At 70 a CSS got the jump on me but I knew he'd jet when the lane cleared so I floored it.
I only got ~15 PSI boost.
He slowly walked away from me up to 130.
At 130 (when we had to shut down) he was maybe 3-4 car lengths ahead.
I might have passed him if I got the full 24 PSI but hey, it was still fun.

Thumbs up and smiling from ear to ear all around

We didn't chat afterwards but I suspect his is stock, mine has the stage kit but that's no help if she only gives me 15 PSI

Exclamation

Just because the Cobalt says SS on the side does not mean it is blown.

Toms right. Many of us are aware, but for those who don't know: Over the years the Cobalt SS was made with various power levels. They were equipped with the 2.4l NA, 2.0l SC and 2.0l TC. The only competition b/t a stock HHR SS and a stock Cobalt SS would be the TC version. The 2.4l NA and 2.0l SC would have to be highly modded to compete.

You are correct. I pulled my info from an incorrect source awhile back. I guess weight matched stock for stock it would be a driver's race. I guess the final drive doesn't really matter in this case. Someone needs to lose weight to put this theory to the test. Traction would still be issue regardless.

Cobalt SS Superchardged VS HHR SS +1 Cobalt (though close if HHR SS is manual)
Cobalt SS Turbocharged VS HHR SS +1 Cobalt (not even close...)
