Lots of sources for a rebuilt 4T45E online, or full rebuild kits

was hoping for a more low budget. arent rebuilds from shops or online stores over $1200 (which excludes labor for swapping the trans out)? i was hoping for a jy or working mileage trans for under $500 and have a shop swap out the trans with the added fluid and converter flush and hopefully keep everything under $1k.

You might find a decent used transmission, around $400.00 at your local pick a part yard. Swap out time is about 7.5 hours

Most junk yards give some sort of guarantee on used transmissions. Any way you look at it the labor is going to cost about $800.

Buddy said he'd do removal, reinstall, and getting end alignment for $700 at his shops place on his personal time. He advised a trans shop locally, ck transmission for the rebuild over going the jy route. He also suggested using type f atf. Can't say I ever heard about them but he says they help with the heat and clutch packs

Use Dex VI ONLY! Unless he is going to insure the trans.

Type F contains no friction modifiers so shifting will be kind of sloppy. yeah, less wear on the clutches and cooler running because it is straight lubricant. Your buddy must be my age, they haven't used type F (in Fords) since about 1977.

I would want to see the shop that "rebuilds" to be sure they don't just change solenoids and maybe valve body.

Rebuild is better then junk yard. If they are trustworthy and knowledgeable.
