best option for a tuner?
 

I know this is probably a common thing for people to ask. But what would be the best option for me in a 2008 stock hhr ss.

Most on here go for either the Trifecta or HP Tuners.

I, myself, am a huge fan of the HP Tuners.

There was something that I was a little curious about when it comes to the trifecta tuner is do I have to buy the flash cable gor it? If so why is that cable so much? Plus whats some info on the hp tuners?

Yes, you must purchase the flash cable. Not sure on why they charge so much for it.

as to HP Tuners
the software is only as good as the person doing the tuning. this is so very important
an inexperienced HP tuner user can cause allot of problems and possibly cause you to run too lean
so be carefull

I see you have the trifecta tune, do I need to purchase the flash cable to be able to use it? And what about the budget tune? Any info for it?

budget tune is no better than the GM tune from what I have heard
I believe they send you the cable for the basic tune that must be sent back, but the other tune I believe you have to pay for it
I have HP tuners myself and have yet to use it since there are not a lot of tuners to go to in ohio, plus it is best to dyno when tuning so I am looking at about $500 for a good tune with dyno

what is nice about the trifecta is they do it via email, you do some data logging and send it to them which they tweek and send back to you a tune catered to you. you have more control over the tune with HP, but you gotta do it yourself or find a good tuner. you can also check out the cobalt forum for a tuner from there that can help, thats what I have done just waiting for some funds and warmer weather to start!

plug in digital tuners are about the same in what you get out of them compared to trifecta budget or the GM upgrade tune. you'll be around 290hp

The statement that a budget tune is no better than gm tune is not true. It is based on mods you have done. You still have the choice to put it on cruise or comp mode. You just do not get data logging support and no retunes for free. You can upgrade later if you want. You do not have to purchase the cable.

I'm also looking at what tune to get, I can get a Superchips cortex for $250-$300 or the trifecta for $565+shipping I haven't seen Any recent activity confirming if Vince is still tuning hhr's though and my big worry is dropping $600 and not being able to have my tune customized

I want something capable of running low to mid 13 second 1/4 miles with my stock 2008 hhr as auto and just the tune

I'm really struggling on which to buy since it seems trivets is taking a long time to reply to people and there aren't any HPtuners in my area
