HHR SS no boost misfire hesitation no power

Hey guys created this account because my dad just purchased a ss hhr.
It has 121k miles.
The day after he bought it, the car stopped boosting and has a lot of hesitation/misfires and no power (because no boost)
Now I have a turbo civic so I'm very familiar with turbos and the like.
After the no boost incident happened it got a check enginei light awhile after..
When my dad tried to use the scanner he said there was no code.

My question is where should I start?
Is there a way to use a jumper to pull the check engine light like I can with my Honda?
We don't have a scanner we borrowed one..
And autozone doesn't lend scanners anymore..
I tried searching but all I see is people replacing perfectly fine parts until eventually they replace the right part

How can I test these parts before replacing
How can I test the maf
How can I test the boost sensor
Is there any common spots where a coupling would come apart?
I took a quick look and everything seemed to be connected it's kinda hard to tell as the engine bay is very packed..

I appreciate any and all help I can get

If you got a CEL, then it will have a code. Try another scanner. The code will at least help point you in the right direction.
No way to "jumper" it to extract the code.
Get back when you have a code. To guess at this point...well it's just a guess. Could be any number of things.

Code is p0101
Car gets 0 boost..
I have checked every coupling with out taking the bumper off.
I reached my hand into the Intercooler area and the Intercooler pipes are connected.

My dad just bought this car from a BMW dealer.
The air filter is filthy...
The dealer said to bring the car in Monday but my dad is determined to fix it before then lol.

you could pull the intake manifold and check the valves for carbon buildup, thats becoming more common

RedTurboSS 07-28-2013 09:20 PM

Is that really the first thing I should do?

Well you checked for boost leaks, although it is possible the pipes flex and leak only under load. There is a joint on the upper pipe.
Also check the map sensor on the lower pipe by the bottom of the rad, it can contact under load.

Ok sounds like a plan.
Also going to try and clean the MAF sensor with some MAF cleaner.
I think were now gonna wait until we take it back to the dealer tomorrow to see what they say

I have a pretty lengthy thread on almost the same issue.
https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/2-0l-performance-tech-46/hhr-ss-shutting-off-running-rough-about-first-few-minutes-each-morning-s-46920/
And have received a ton of help here and other sites and other. Mechanics.
I would clean maf as mentioned above. Doubt that's it.
Second you need to find out if it has the gmtu it will have Bosch tmap sensors upper and lower and there will more than likely be wiring rubbing issues or connection issues on the bottom one if that is the case.
Next do a true boost leak check not a visual thing
If you need to know how on this vehicle pm me or search in here.
If you can pull upper and lower tmaps and clean with maf cleaner.
Pull battery negative cable for 30 minutes plus.
Hook up and go.
Let us know if the dealer finds so.etching else like a misadjusted waste gate etc.

Dealer has fixed the car it is now running 15 lbs.
It was a cracked pipe somewhere..
They also replaced plugs and air filter.
But the issue was the cracked piping.
Not sure which pipe as I didn't talk to them.
My dad was to stoked to ask any questions because he got his car back.

Thanks everyone for all they're help and responses..
Sure am glad I didn't pull the intake manifold that's for sure..
But I honestly didn't even consider it.
I would have if I couldn't find the culprit though.

Also yeah bigjacksauto I have read all of your thread with the same problem. But pops wanted the dealer to handle it and I don't blame him.
He just bought the car and should have ran right from day one
When I took it for a spin I didn't even see it hit 10lbs so it was probably already cracked. And then finally busted open causing the code
