Yes, and yes. My 08 SS was tuned with HPtuners before the upgrade was offered. When I did get the upgrade my car was slower than with my modified tune, but I wanted/needed the 3 bar sensors and at the time that was the only way to get them and the cal information required to use them.

Remember that was almost 10 years ago. Not a lot of people understood DI motors and the unique torque based tuning used on these cars. From that learning there was a lot of broken piston ring lands, bent rods, faulty oil pans and blocks (as in the rod breaks and ventilates the block or oil pan) burned out waste gate solenoids from pushing the duty cycles in an effort to get most boost and trashed turbos. Where in some cases people/tuners consider the stock turbo to be a consumable item when used in stock forms of racing.

What are you looking to do?

DrLoch:

I just picked up a 2009 SS 5-speed. I'm also considering the GM upgrade kit.

Did the GM kit make a noticeable improvement in performance?

Thanks
Steve

From stock to the upgrade yes it's noticeable, but if you can find a tuner near you and get the sensors the improvement is really noticeable.

Everyone, please use the GM Performance upgrade ‘tune’ as your ‘base’ tune...
This GM upgrade ‘tune’ has important safety features built into it that aren’t found in the stock production program...
These safety features will help save you from engine damage, if your stock, or modified, & it will help protect you, when
you go crazy, when, & if you start tuning over this ‘tune’ in your future endeavors...
Even if you never change this ‘tune’, it will still help protect your engine, when it detects any anomalies, such as sensor failures...

Even If your having your tuner upgrade your stock factory program, with the stock 2 bar sensors, or with the better 3 bar sensors,
have him load his tuning ‘magic’, on a copy of the GM upgrade program, for your ‘buggy’...

The most important safety feature in the GM upgrade ‘tune’ is the turbo over-speed protection table...
If the turbo is allowed to over-speed, it will be out of its efficiency range, causing the intake air to be
super overheated, & creating to much pressure, causing engine destruction because of broken piston rings...

I credit this GM upgrade ‘tune’ for saving my ass over the last 10 years, as my engine has been trouble free, even when pushing the limits,
& trying some crazy parameters when tuning, that I really should know better for trying... LOL

2005HHRauto, Reading your older post...
Who does the additional tuning after the GM Tune or stage 1... if I understand various posts.
Is the ZZ Performance additional module & tune the route to take, along with their exhaust?

Looking for direction if still performed in present date.

According to DrLoch, HPtuners after the GM upgrade tune per 2005HHRauto. That’s if you can find one. Like this
19369111 GM Performance Power Upgrade Package

or this turbo upgrade , no tune required

I believe the 1st link is the Stg1 kit... which is already installed on the SS.
I'm looking at the Stg2 kit and purchasing the Tuner (MPVI2).
I looked at ZZP and RPM Motorsports.
Looks like RPM Moto has a hefty price but nice Stg2 package.

Then if you already have the GM Stage 1, go with DrLoch’s suggestion with HPtuners
