Are you speaking of the 350hp E85 TUNE? my 08 HHR SS isn't FLEX FUEL COMPATIBLE = but I'll read the entire thread you've mentioned again...

If you're bone stock, I think you'll want one of the 2-bar tunes.

If you’re gonna tune anyway, might as well throw in a set of 3-bar MAP sensors (which require a tune,) and use the GMTU or one based upon it. You will have more choices.

I want an (up to) 25 psi tune that will tolerate 87 octane E10, or E85. I believe my 2010 SS already has compatible injectors. That leaves the fuel pump and fuel level sensor to figure out for corrosion issues. IDK is anyone can write a FlexFuel-like routine for sensing ethanol %, or if it’s even possible with the ECM. I do know that the LHU, a FlexFuel variant of the LNF, was used in Regals, Veranos, and Saabs

A friend of mine suggested adding the flex fuel sensor to my SS should be a relatively easy mod and he thought the code was already in the ECM and would just need to be turned on. But he spends his days hacking diesel ECMs so his idea of simple is different from most.

Respectfully, your friend has no idea what he’s talking about. No such thing as a “flex fuel sensor” in an HHR. The ECM in a FlexFuel models (basically all 2009-2011 non-SS HHR’s) calculates the fuel content from other sensor data when it detects a refueling event.

Beyond that, over my head. IDK if it’s possible to add such a routine to the SS ECM. But it would be more than your typical tune. I mentioned the LHU above so we know that GM knows how to do it. Might take a more robust ECM, IDK. I speculate that had the SS continued beyond 2010, it might have gone FlexFuel.

There is such a thing as a dual tune for two different fuel fills, switchable by hijacking one of the dash buttons. Shouldn’t be hard to find with some googling.

BTW, you could check with the Cobalt LNF community (2008-2010 Cobalt SS,) as there are somewhat more LNF Cobalts than HHR SS’s, and a robust if waning tuner community.

The thing about Josh is he knows things other people don't and he knows people who probably worked at GM on this project. It's the same ECM in the SS and the non SS and probably the same OS, just with different features enabled. That's pretty common in the world of automotive ECMs. If I wasn't in CA, I might let him have a go at adding the sensor and enabling that feature. Just because no one has done it, doesn't mean it can't be done. He's done a lot of thing in the diesel world that couldn't be done and he drive a full self driving 2019 Dodge Ram 2500, something that couldn't be bought from the factory. He did all the integration between Comma-AI and the Dodge so he could have that.
