Maybe he meant a flex fuel compatible fuel level sensor.

That's exactly what he meant.

Just because no one has done it, doesn't mean it can't be done. He's done a lot of thing in the diesel world that couldn't be done and he drive a full self driving 2019 Dodge Ram 2500, something that couldn't be bought from the factory. He did all the integration between Comma-AI and the Dodge so he could have that.
I knew nothing about your friend when I commented, so don't take it personally. If you meant the fuel level sensor, you should have said so. A lot of people assume there is an ethanol sensor involved and there isn't.

The compatability of fuel level sensor with ethanol isn't just achieved with corrosion resistant materials; the polling rate is reduced dramatically to reduce galvanic corrosion. As always, it's more complicated than in might initially seem.

Not that this is strictly necessary; lots of E85 tunes are implemented with no mod to the fuel pump or sensor at all, and last for awhile, anyway. So the fuel pump and level sensor discussion is a red herring. i.e., not terribly essential to achieving a FlexFuel car, more of a secondary concern.

Your friends knowledge seems impressive, but if he thinks this is no big deal, I wish both all the best and would love the priviledge of following your progress.
