SS owners on this site have tried various combinations when altering the exhaust. Honestly, coring that 2nd cat seems to be the only proven way of obtaining any extra HP.

If it's just the sound you're after, then you could go with a muffler delete. A little warning though on that. Several have tried it (me included), but ended up with that "drone" noise at cruising speeds.
I went back with the muffler listed in my sig and like it.

If you're trying to get that low growling rumble like a V8, won't ever happen because it is just a 122 cubic inch 4 banger.

 

Well I don't expect it to sound anything like a big V8 of course, but right now it doesn't sound like anything, so I do need something

 

Like it has been documented, core the second cat, the rest is just noise!

 

Could pull the balance shaft out of the motor, then it would sound like an V8 with 3 cylinders missing.

 

It's noise that I want. I want people to hear me coming. Loud pipes save lives.
That could work...

 

I was out walking the dogs yesterday, and I heard a car coming behind me. I thought for sure it was some ricer, probably a Honda, with a fart can. After it passed, I was laughing out loud for about a block. It was a full-size Dodge pickup! I just was amazed that a full-size pickup could sound so awful!

I guess be careful what you wish for. You're in a small town, pedestrians will hear you coming even stock. Most people in their cars won't hear you regardless, between their own loud exhaust, loud music, air conditioning on, windows up, etc.

Do as you will, but do your homework, there's a lot of information here, use that search window and share with us whatever system you find you like!

I was looking for the easy way to go, I don't exactly need dual exhaust or to modify the body anywhere. What does coring the cat do for emissions? I'm always worried about emissions since I live right on the California border
