SS Clutch question with tune

Hello all,

I just picked up a 2009 SS with performance package with Brembos and LSD. 5 speed. Well cared for car with 125k miles, just intake and cat back ZZP exhaust. I would like to know others experience with a ZZP tune and stock clutch. I'm not a racer or beat the hell out of it. how does the stock clutch hold up and can someone offer their experience with a good driver friendly clutch upgrade to handle increased HP and torque?
thanks!

ZZP tuned my ECM. They did something in first gear, maybe limited the torque?

I put in the KY stage 3 clutch from TTR, but it didn't last even a year. I'm on a stock clutch now, it's been about a year, no problems.

My son drives our 2009 SS 5-speed. last year we got a ZZP tune, intake, and downpipe. the clutch was stock, but the car had 230K miles.

When you request the tune, ZZP asks a lot of questions about your setup. You can request torque limiting in first gear if you want. He doesn't have limited slip, so we asked for the torque limiting in first. They also made the tune for a stock clutch.

A few months after the tune, he was having some shifting issues. Since the car had so many miles on it, we decided to replace the clutch. The new clutch was a South Bend clutch from ZZP that was customized for the HHR. I don't remember exactly which one. After the new clutch install, we sent the PCM back to ZZP for a reprogram because the clutch was now stronger.

Call them up (or Email) with your questions, their customer service is fabulous.

You don’t know fastsuv! He has a huge barn with a lift and tools, no shop work on his HHR’s ! He does all his own work and usually posts photos about it.

Here a how to by Steve for his 06,

I did the clutch replacement myself with my son's help (as OldBlue pointed out). I'm guessing a shop would charge 6 or 7 hours of labor.

I bought a new steel LUK flywheel from Rock Auto to replace the original. I think it was $110.

The SS flywheel is held on by 8 bolts (6 bolts in non-SS models) which should be replaced with new ones. They are expensive, about $6 each.
