2.2 engine swap interchangeable

Just bought 2 more HHRs yesterday. Count is up to 6 in a little over a year LOL. 2007 Panel 2.2 automatic and a 2010 LS 2.2 manual. The 07s engine is bad. What are options on using the engine from the 2010 model. The 2010 has a 2.2 but it is a VVT and flex fuel. I'm thinking my easiest option is to put the non VVT head on the good engine. With that done will I need to get a tuner?

What is wrong with the engine?

Your 2007 had a Gen II L61.

If your only option is an entire used engine, your best bet is to find a good engine from a 2007 2.2 HHR. (But you might want to be prepared to salvage you fuel injectors, because I seem to remember something about the injectors changing mid-year?)

2008 also had that L61 and should be the same but there may be small differences.

From what I understand, when 2.2L equipped, 2007-2008 Cobalt, Malibu, & G5, and 2007 Saturn Ion also had that engine, but you might need to swap to keep some of your peripheral parts, IDK.

I'm just trying to use what I have. I already have the 2.2 out of a 2010.

Just didn't know if that would same me any money as I was doing a timing set regardless. So will the 07 or 08 2.2 non vvt head work on a 2010 2.2 VVT Block?

No, the passages for the VVT will not align.

I'm not using the VVT. The head off the 2007 2.2 on the 2010 block.

Well you’ve been told a couple times that it won’t work. Maybe you need to try another HHR site where they say it will work.
Facebook HHR ?

Good enough. I'll probably just rebuild one of them.
