2007 LT Throttle Body Relearn Process
 

The throttle body in my car has been damaged for a while and I've decided to just replace it. The lip is cracked and seems to be corroding somehow. I don't think it is holding a perfect vaccume which may be contributing to the erratic idle I've been having since I bought the car. I have found this throttle body relearn procedure on ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com, this is what they say.

1) Start the engine and let it idle in park for 3 minutes. During that period the idle may be higher idle than normal.
2) After 3 minutes, turn the engine off and leave it off for 60- seconds.
3) Start the engine again and let it idle in park for 3 minutes one more time. During these run periods you may see a check engine light. Scan for codes and if you get throttle body related codes, clear them.
4) If the idle speed is still off, drive the vehicle at speeds above 44-mph and operate several acceleration and deceleration cycles. Then repeat step #3 one last time.

Can't anyone confirm this information? I apologize if this is a repeat post, I did a search and the relearn procedure was mentioned but I couldn't find it spelled out anywhere.

To be clear I haven't installed the new throttle body yet, just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to royally muff this up. I will update this thread for probably the next week with anything that occurs (good or bad)

You really shouldn't need to worry about it. Doesn't the procedure sound a lot like "normal operation" to you?

Just installed it and don't have a check engine light yet. This was way easier than I thought it was going to be and the erratic idle seems to be much less, at least upon start up. Going on a test drive shortly, I will report back with results.

Thats a fair point, but so far I've learned to look into this kind of thing before messing with it.

Currently sitting in an Advanced Auto parking lot. This is the info I've gathered so far.

Before test drive
Idle in Park: 600-800 rpm
Idle in drive(brake applied): 1200 rpm

After test drive:
Idle climbs to 2,500 rpm and very slowly climbs from there in Park.
Idle Drops to 1,500 rpm for a few seconds, then drops again and settles at 1000 rpm once in drive. Does not drop. Only drops to 1000 rpm after turing on and off

I double check all of the connections on the harness and they all seem snug with no loose wires. Any ideas on what to do next? Worse case scenario, I just put the old one back on. Any ideas on where to start?

Good MO, investigate, then replace the part, I find that if it’s electrical, it’s best practice to disconnect the battery at the negative terminal.

Well first off, did you disconnect the negative battery terminal ?
Did you try to move the throttle plate manually?
What brand of throttle body did you get?

I disconnected the battery before I disconnected the wiring harnesses. Should I still try that?
