Welcome to the site.

If it " threw a rod", it probably can't be rebuilt. Thrown rods will usually damage the engine block beyond repair.
Look at getting a used or remanufactured engine. Prices will vary.

I live In Southern Cali and some how destroyed my motor driving back home from Northern Cali. My mechanic found a motor for around 900.00 that had 32k miles and he said was clean. Then pulled the old motor and installed the new motor for 2850.00 out the door. Lucky for me I was working an overtime job. So all my extra fun money went into a newer motor but so far it runs good and I've put 6k on the newer motor.

Wow, that guy has a line on a whole bunch of "2011" engines with mileage from 50K or so, on up, but the most expensive is only about a grand. Not tooo dang shabby, IMO.

So, how much labor do you guys think is reasonable for the engine swap if you provide the replacement engine?

I'm usually around , three cups of coffee, lunch, a nap in the afternoon, then dinner, back at it till 1 maybe 2am , so I don't know what the book says is correct, I remember 15 hours mentioned once before x what ever your mechanic charges!
