Flex fuel question

Ok so never had a vehicle capable of running flex fuel (E85) any way I have a 2008 hhr panel ls with a 2.2 my question is everything I see on flex fuel motors shows them having vvt setups mine however doesn't recently redid all the timing and balance chains. So I know they don't exist on my motor so is variable valve timing apart of these flex fuel motors or did someone swap a motor into this car at some point I don't know any of the history on this car just that someone has gone through it before and not put some bolts back smdh also car is stamped flex fuel on the back so it did have at one time just not wanting to dump fuel into my ride that could damage something thanks

If yours is a 2008 it is NOT flexfuel. Does it have a flexfuel badge on the tailgate?

Flexfuel came to HHR in 2009 when the 2.2L got VVT, the 2.4L always had VVT but not flexfuel until 2009.

OP says his car is stamped flex fuel on the back. Either it's been wrecked and the hatch replaced with a newer year model or some PO thought it would be a better selling point to put a flex fuel badge on a car that isn't one.

Yes there is a badge on the tailgate and it has ran e85 since I've owned it but never a 100% mix

Look on the label on the glovebox door for these codes.
The 2008 2.2L engine is L61 non-VVT/not flexfuel.
The 2009 2.2L engine is LE8 flexfuel/VVT. Entirely different engine.

Somebody put the badge on the car, not the factory.

And you still do not. Don't put e85 in anymore.

And ..... Recheck the Vin number with a Chevrolet dealer just to make sure it is a 2008.

Donbrew's suggestion on the engine codes should also tell.

Punctuation is a wonderful thing. But if it has a badge on the back, someone might have swapped the lift gate.

Yellow Fuel Cap

Hello. I have an 09 VVT and my gas cap is yellow. Which tells me it accepts flex fuel. I do believe as mentioned before that they started the flex fue hhr's in 2009.
