forced induction for the 2.2
ok, before start flaming me, i did a search and have found very little recent info on force feeding the 2.2. specifically i am interested in the gmpp supercharger kit or an sts turbo kit.
are there any specific part numbers released by either company for these kits? any "soon to be released" news? i have the 2007 so i am good for computer tuning, as far as i can tell... thanks in advance! :thumb: jeremy |
GMP SC kit does not have a flash made for the new or old 2.2's. STS has yet to release a turbo kit. Garett has a turbo kit for the Cobalts and WILL work for the HHR but intercooler piping will be different and needs to be custom fabbed. Nothing new on the 2.2 front but like you said, since you have an 07 2.2 it uses a newer ECM and can be tuned by HPtuners. There's not many people on this site that are into performance for the HHR 2.2 and your best bet is to look around on Jonyy's other board www.cobaltss.net. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Then you would have to cut a hole in the hood and mount a scoop. Top mounted intercoolers are NOT a good cooling unit. This is why most people that own STi's or even FC bodied RX7's get a front mount Intercooler. Placing a device to cool an intake charge on top of the thing creating the most heat in the engine bay is not very conducive to the job the intercooler is assigned.
So you COULD do it. But not a very ideal location. |

Although this isn`t exactly the subject, You could have a Turbo w/o an intercooler until a suitable unit becomes avail..
I have a Turbo Caravan (89), I put an intercooler on it, had to have the piping fabbed, wasn`t a big deal, the van ran ok w/o the intercooler, but better with it. I kept looking around in the bone yards until I found one that would fit and work. Made sure all the parts that were neccesary were in hand, no problem. Of course I had a Turbo car to start the project with. The internals were also in place. Turbos put a strain on parts, no one has ever discussed the internals, pistons, rods, gaskets, etc;. I`ve read a lot about sticking one on, but nothing about upgrading the other parts... Anyway, I put the Intercooler right in front of the radiator, look closely, you can see the spray nozzles for the Intercooler-Cooler. That`s the resevoir bottle in the second pic. The third pic is of the piping. |

I wanted to show a pic, but I had to find one.
It looks almost the same, no flames on the hood, and a little dirtier (since the "Beautiful One" has it`s parking spot in the garage ). I got it in 2000, had a chose of V6 or Turbo. Always wanted a turbo, so I went for it... No regrets, in fact when I get a Need for Speed, that`s what I drive. It`s the ultimate sleeper. Most people think they can just get around it at a light, Ha-Ha. Boost Baby. :D Got the boost controller at 12lbs., had it at 15, but got tired of putting new head gaskets on. Check out the Turbo Bee my bud & I came up with...:D |
sts has a kit that you can modd the piping for the 2.2 or 2.4 , but the problem is the tune.

Hey BB. There's a vid floating around of a van like yours out running a modded Trans-Am (i think) at the drag strip. Funny vid and you're right. It IS the ultimate sleeper!
