Gas Mileage
 

With 15,000 miles and celebrating our 1st birthday, I decided to try a controlled MPG test. I filled up in Grayling, MI, got on I-75 and drove south for 88 miles to Beaver Rd, just north of Bay City, MI. I got off the freeway and filled up, it took 2.186 gallons of gas, which equates to 40 mpg. Now, I set the cruise control to 60 mph for the whole 88 miles.

On the way back, after driving about 50 miles on back roads, I got back on I-75 north and set the cruise control at 70 mph, with three 24 bottle cases of water in the back. When I got back to Grayling, MI, I filled up and my mileage was 30 mpg. The outside temp going down was 38 to 39 degrees, and I have an Airaid cold air intake, automatic, 2.2L 2007 LT1.

Made our usual (twice monthly) run down to Steele, AL. 201 miles door-to-door one way. DIC reported 30.3, manual calculation only a fraction off (30.1). Filled up Thursday night as we left town, filled up again on return. Almost all is highway mileage -- 75 with cruise control set -- with the last 10 miles being off the interstate and up the side of Chandler Mountain. This mileage is consistent with my two previous trips to AL in The Buggy.

I see 26.5+ with mixed city highway cummuter traffic. I could do better if I could resist flogging the tires once in a while!

i've gotten just about 35mpg from Clemson to Greenville (going 60-65mph) which is about a 35 mile stretch of highway. on the whole trip back to Charleston (225 miles), i got over 32mph. I usually get 28-30 on the trip when I drive a little faster.

Still crappy. so far 16.1 on this tank in ALL Long Beach city driving, no hills, no leadfoot. It needs to get into the dealer and quick.

2.4 auto 2008

Well, so much for Nitrogen not disappearing from the tires. After the HHR sat for the winter, all the tires lost 15lbs each. No wonder my first tankfuls of the season were lousy. I had them topped off and the mileage immediately went up to over 29 average. That's more like it.

Well im getting 30-31 mpg on the hills here in the ozarks. I drive 25 miles to Branson 5-6 days a week and im gettin great gas milage with a 2.2 and a 5 spd. In town im averaging 26-28 in the city as lons as i dont put my foot into it

Stitch I did a best of 35.5mpg on our first HHR Nation run from Buffalo to Tucson, mainly because of friendly 75mph runs through Kansas and Arizona. I mainly look at fuel range for my efficiency: the best I've hit with either Stitch is 535 (on the same road trip with Stitch I).

Doubt I'll get the same with Stitch II on this year's run, considering the return trip will be pulling a trailer through the Superstition Mountains, but I'll give it a shot. :thumb:

I drove from Denver to Meers Oklahoma and my readout halfway through Oklahoma was reading 41.2 mpg, had the cruise set at 60mph, and had a good tail wind (maybe that is what helped me)

The wind definitely makes a difference. I made a highway trip yesterday and my fuel economy was almost cut in half heading into the wind vs coming back with the tailwind. I used the instantaneous reading with cruise control on.
