shifting question
Hello,
I have a 2.2 LS with about 900 miles on it. I usually shift around 3000 rpm. When should i be shifting? I didn't want to be too aggressive while i break in the engine, but i was just curious at what rpm others where shifting? thanks, Greg |
3000 is fine.
Depending on who you ask. During break in periods you should never run your enigne all the way to redline. Unless you're like me and just don't care. I ran my HHR all the way out at almost every take off during my test drive and during the first month of ownership. :D |
Yea, it also recommends not keeping a constant speed for the first 200 miles I think it was, but I did that on the drive from the dealership. I love cruise control! It didn't mess anything up that I can tell. My car still runs fine, but I can't help with the shifting question. I have an auto

I shift at 3k, didnt worry about the break in time or the constant speed for first 200 and Ive had no probs. 19k so far.

Besides shifting at 3K, are you giving it full throttle? I think you're suppose to shift under 3K all the while giving it no more that 2/3 throttle for the first 250 miles.
Then you have to give a a couple of consecutive full throttle runs up to 5K RPM after you reach 250 miles, so you can seat the piston rings. DO NOT GIVE FULL THOTTLE RUNS TO REDLINE. Make sure your first oil change is with conventional oil before you consider using synthetic. Once you get your second oil change, it's "safer" to go to redline. |
I shift about 3,000 to 2,750rpm.
