2.4 or 2.2

Visually, is the 2.4 similiar looking to the 2.2 ??

& the size, would that be listed under the hood ?

Thanks.

There's a SMALL tag under the hood that tells if it is a 2.2 or 2.4. Having just bought a 2LT, I had to figure that out when hunting a 2.4 I wanted. I have seen some of the valve covers say 2.2 on them, but I cannot see under the filter on mine right off the bat to know. I hope this helps.

It is my understanding that the 2.4 only goes in the 2LT, so the external visual clues may help you screen pretty quickly. In other words, I haven't heard of a 2.4 LS. If I am thinking right, the 2LT always comes with running boards, so that would be a good starting point too. Of course, never say never, and there are always exceptions. :-) God Bless, Marc

you can get the 2.4 engine upgrade in a non 2LT HHR (unless this was changed for 09, i know this was true in 08).

When searching for mine, i had found many regular LTs with the 2.4 engine and some of the other various upgrades.

The 2.2 is standard on the LS and 1LT but you can get the 2.4 as an option on the 1LT and is standard on the 2LT. But to tell which engine on a quick glance from the outside, the 2.2 has a small tail pipe, the 2.4 has the large Stainless Exh tip. Running boards also were available on all of the first models for around $445

Are you looking for the engine type on a specific car?
Check the VIN code, 8th digit.
The 2.2 is code F (pre-09) or H (09) and the 2.4 is code B(pre 09).

Or...

The 2.4 has "VVT" on the cam cover (2.0 LNF does also).

The 2.4 has two harness plugs at the "front" of the motor (pass. side) for the VVT solenoids.

Between the above, you should be able to determine.

Thank everyone for All the info...

It does have the Big stainless ex tip..

& they are saying 2.4, but on a paper for Kelly BB they showed me it listed a 2.2 (since they are a bit away) I can't just look myself..

Anyway, this is for an '08 Panel 2LT

& 8th Vin # from the left is a "P" ??

The "P" means it is the 2.4L

To more specifically address the running boards point, you are incorrect, Marc. Running boards were not standard equipment for all 2LTs. At least not for 2006 and 2007 2LTs.

As an08HHR pointed out, running boards were available at an additional charge of $445. This included the 2LT.

Hope this helps
