The 1000 HP Ecotecs are 2.0s and 2.2s specially prepped for drag racing. You'll never see 1000 HP out of a street driven Ecotec ever! Read some of the articles about the few Ecotec drag cars. You'll be lucky to get 300 HP out of the factory Ecotec on the street. Even 300 HP is going to take a lot of money and parts. I will still mod for speed but you'll never have a 1000 HP Ecotec, unless you build your own Ecotec drag car.

Just on a side note a 1000 HP Ecotec pushes 1200 pounds an hour of fuel through the motor and last about 150 - 200 1/4 mile passes. Not exactly a great daily driver.

Interesting peice. My opinion would disagree somewhat with the statement that there is good power at the low end and that it tapers off as it goes up the tack. I find a smooth band until about 4 grand and then It kicks in. I figure its the vvt working as designed. I am really impressed with the auto tranny and how well it works with the 4 cyl engine. usually there is more lag and more "wandering" than this set up. I wonder if Chevy will some day offer an SS package with the 300 hp small v8 offered on their other ss models. that would probably sell large.
