2.4l to 2.2l Swap
Hello everyone. This is my first post, and I hope to get the answers I need, This project is going to happen, I just hope to have someone with some experience to advise or guide me. I have 2 HHRs. I have a 2006 with a 2.4l and an automatic and a 2009 with a 2.2l and an automatic. The 2.4l had a catastrophic failure. I dont know the cause but I can see the internals rotating without removing any covers and it is quite noisy while running. I assume it is now junk. The 2009 I am planning a v8 swap. I dont need the stock engine and trans. It seems my least expensive option to repair it is to remove the engine trans and sub frame assembly from the 2009 and bolt it in the 2006, then just plug the wiring harness in. Is it this simple? How will the wiring change over? can I just plug the replacement assembly harness into the fuse panel?

A. CVT transmission???? is this a Honda or an HHR? There were 2 choices 5 speed manual & 4 speed auto. Well, there were 2 different 5 speeds.
B. not plug n play, I don't know if you could move the ECM and the TCM might work, but then you would have to figure out what to do with the BCM and the CAN-bus.

Yep, I realized my mistake in the first 5 min of research. I had always assumed it was the cvt because of the PRDIL selection on the shifter. The first appearance was in the saturn vue with the chevy 2.2 and the CVT transmission.

The electronics are different between a 2.2L and a 2.4L, the harnesses are different, the 2006 has an entirely different ECM. The ECM has to agree with the BCM.
I am not sure, but it would probably be easiest to take the ECM, BCM, TCM, engine harness, ignition theft module from the donor. And then I don't know how the Restraint computers or the ABS and traction control computers would work, since they interact with the BCM and ECM.
The GM LAN and CAN BUS are probably different.
You may have trouble with the DMV, and insurance company.
Cheaper to get a matching used engine. But, you seem to be up for a challenge.
Every car I've had since 1970 has had a PRDIL, made famous on "Green Acres". Sometimes marked PRD2L. The operation of the "I" is covered in the Owner Manual, available through the link in my sig.
