Care and Feeding of CGS Intake

O. K., now that I have my new CGS Intake... what are the care and feeding of it... i.e. maintenance/cleaning?

JimZ_HHR 11-01-2006 08:07 PM

second question? what is C.A.R.B.approval ?

Snoopy 11-01-2006 08:18 PM

What to feed the CGS......a GOOD top-tier gasoline, preferably 91 or above octane and a clean boost of fresh air:lol:

CARB = California Air Resourse Board (if I remember correctly). The part should have their approval to LEGALLY use it in California.:thumb: Although many people use a variety of items NOT approved.

More concerned about the cleaning.... (oiling) how-to

Here are some instructions for care of K & N Filters. :thumb: Hope this helps.

I have a lot of previous experience with K&N- type filters. DO NOT OVER-OIL THE FILTER!. It's a natural tendency to do the "more is better" thing. A light spray of oil and it will wick evenly over the filter if you let it sit overnight.

Over-oiling has been implicated in some Mass Airflow sensor problems on Chevy trucks (I have a Suburban) and could potentially cause problems on the HHR.

After you've pull out the filter out of the squeezed tight area...
try to straighten it out as much as possible, so as to not to block the passages of the filter. Or changed the filter size -

Ooooooo- shiney (drool)!!! Nice Stablizer, Henry!!! That's the unit you fabbed, right? No-one's carrying them (HHR specific) yet...? I'd be interested in hearing about the power transfer differences (different time/different thread) now that you've had it on a while.
Lookin' Good!:thumb:

Unable to give actual time readings...
NO dyno places near me..

I guess I can take the car to the air field and have the security police track me with their radar units... ;)

Maybe this CGS intake is too much work

Jim...on the contrary....they are very little work at all other than a routine cleaning/changing of the filter, but you'd have that no matter what sort of car you owned. The stock turtle box that came with the car is much more work to take off and on than the CGS. Mine hasn't been off to oil the filter or anything yet...it's been off so I could make adjustments to it so it fit better in my 2.2L. The CGS systems are made to bolt right on to the 2.4L and can be done quite easily. It also makes for a much nicer look under the hood too in my opinion.

I also purchased the Outlaw filter that Mike at SoCalHHR's sells and put that on in place of the one that came with the CGS. Now I have a spare one that can be put on at a later date when I need to clean and oil the filter. Can't go wrong for $20 and I'll probably never have to buy another filter for the HHR as long as I have it.

Hopefully Mike (socallhhr) will have some input when he gets back.... i.e. Cleaning (with what? and how often? )
