Cobalt SS Supercharger on an HHR 2.4?

Someone has to have done this, right? I am seeing Cobalt superchargers on craigslist all over the place.

Anyone have details on a swap, and what exactly would be needed? intake, pulleys etc?

At first thought it seems simple but it's really more involved. One member -JoeR-has done it-check the archives. You'll need all the harnesses and modules besides the supercharger. It would be best to find a totalled Cobalt for parts before you even attempted this. That way you'd have most,if not all,of what you need for this project.

A friend of mine found a Cobalt in a junk yard; the car was a total loss but the engine was in perfect condition. He took off the supercharger and put it on his HHR's 2.2 Ecotec engine. It screams!

It's do-able. We've supplied many Cobalt owners with turbosystem conversions, and as a result of this trend, there are a lot of supercharger systems out there that can fit most any Ecotec. One will need more than average skills to adapt it, as it's not a straight bolt-on, and tuning must be done as well.

Your first goal should be to find a tune supplier that can support your PCM. One that I know of is LS2 Edit. HPTuners may also have product...last I knew, they'd not addressed this PCM just yet.

The OP lists a '07. For '06 and '07 the 2.4 used the E67 ECM. HPTuners can handle that just fine. I've had my SC on for well over a year now without issue. Car runs perfect. (I tuned it myself). '08 and later use the E37 ECM. I would recommend going with Trifecta on that. LS2Edit can do them, but you are at the mercy of the tuner's experience.

I've helped a number of people with tuning on both SC and turbo 2.4s. In every case I've seen, the "tooner" really doesn't understand the E67 and how to tune for boost or injectors, resulting in a lot of problems. Be very wary of anyone without experience saying they can tune these.

Other than some wiring issues the biggest challenge is SPACE, or rather the lack of. But it can be done.

I take it this is just for the I wanna be different? Otherwise, the owners who have the SC and are converting to turbo should tell you something......
