Cone Filter in Stock Box?

Yeah I'm sure I could have searched but there's no telling how many threads on custom intakes would pop up. I haven't seen the stock filter that's in our box but I'm assuming it's just a flat style filter. Has anyone dropped in a nice K&N cone filter and if so, how did you do it? Worth it? I keep hearing how effective our stock setup is so figured I'd ask the question.

Unless you want to get the sawzall out, you won't get a cone filter in there....

Why not just put a regulat K&N drop in?

I've never seen the inside of our box so I was unsure. A regular drop in would work...I just really love the sound produced by the cone filters. I don't really want to spend $150+ on a full intake.

I did put a k&n cone filter in mine. It came out of the k&n CAI for the 2.2 or 2.4. Only thing is I have to keep the lid off......but its a completely different setup

Actually I have done exactly this. I used an AEM Dryflow filter and removed the inlet tube and attached at the intake of the stock box. I originally used a drop in k&n and it gets so heat soaked I felt it hurt my performance compared to stock. I wrapped the stock box in heat shielding, built a partial heat shield from pvc and the dryflow filter holds no heat like cotton gauze wrapped around metal mesh like a k&n. I can post pics if I get a chance

Well i would strongly suggest not putting a K&N filter in it. I've had mass airflow sensor problems over the past year and a half since putting the filter in. I have a thread posted and from what im hearing alot of people have this problem with the filter. Just want to tell you to look around this site about the issue before using one.

Over oiling a filter will definitely throw a code.

stock dealio, #3 is the air filter.. Actually VERY efficient !!!

Adding a small cone style can reduce airflow over stock due to less filtering surface.
