Crankshaft phaser ring
Crankshaft phaser ring
I have never given much thought to it and so far never been bitten by using 2.4 crankshafts from other models/years and and just swapping the reluctor ring to insure the correct one for the current application. I'm curious if anyone knows if the crankshafts themselves are actually the same? I know the 2.2 and the 2.4 use the same crankshaft, rods, and cylinder heads are all the same in same model year.. Bore and pistons are the only difference 86 mm vs 88 mm. I have used a 2006 HHR crankshaft on a 2013 Chevy Equinox with changing out the phaser ring. The customer I did it for was certain I was mistaken and would regret it. But it is fine. The part numbers on crankshafts differ, but only because of the phaser ring attached to them.. These statements are my experience.
Does anyone know for certain these cranks are actually the same save for the phaser ring attached to them. The fact that they are bolted on lead me to start swapping as I needed.
Thanks in advance for any knowledge you shed
