Question Custom Side Exhaust Question.

Hey there everyone.

It's been a while since I have posted but I have an idea that I need some help with.

I am considering a modification to my exhaust but am not sure if it will even work.

So here goes my idea, I want to make a junction right before the rear axle and have 2 side pipes that go out to just before the rear tire, but, here is the fun part.

I want to have my stock muffler left in place so that I can still use the stock muffler as well. I have made a simple drawing that should help explain what I mean. (See attachments)

I want to put a gasket like the manual exhaust cutouts have on the side pipes so that when they are sealed all the exhaust goes through the muffler at the back being nice and quiet. but then I could very easily take off the covers on the side pipes and have a nice muffler delete with side pipes.

I am not sure how the + junction under the car would affect the exhaust flow and if the pipes when they are sealed would cause to much heat and melt my running boards and also they would be running right past the fuel and brake lines.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

My first thought is that you would have ground clearance issues if you run the pipes under the running boards. Maybe they can be routed through the rear wheel wells? Just a thought. Probably also a bad idea.

That is a good idea.

I will have to take some measurements and see how the ground clearance would be affected.

I know that it has been done before but to my knowledge, no one has had the stock muffler and side pipes so that they can be sealed and able to run quietly with the stock muffler and with a muffler delete if one so wanted to.

:)

Lots of electric cutouts out there.
Jegs has some cool options.
