Idle issues
Idle issues
I have a 2007 Chevy hhr 2.4. Recently I’ve had an issue progress to almost undrivable conditions but still NO check engine light. It started one day when I put it in reverse and it jerked and almost died, and has gotten progressively worse sense. Now it wants to die when coming to a stop or even when pressing on the gas I have noticed also that sometimes turning the steering wheel hard like parking in a tight spot also causes issues with the idle where it wants to die and when I turn the heater defrost on it also affects the idle. I have 120,000 miles. A few things I was thinking are: throttle body, mass airflow, coil packs or even charging system or battery!? Can anyone help narrow this down I’m having trouble without a code
Welcome
Just because you don't have a Check Engine light doesn't always mean it's "clear" of codes. Have the codes pulled to see if any are there.
From your description, it almost sounds like a low voltage/battery problem. Just guessing but suggest you have the battery tested when you get the codes pulled.
Had to jump it lately ? Or been slow to turn over.
How old is the battery ?
Has any mechanical work been done prior to this problem occurring ?

Yes I did have a dead battery recently and had to jump it. Sense having to jump it I’ve had to blown fuses. The first was the power steering fuse the second was the ignition control module fuse. I am going to have the battery and alternator tested today and I will post an update. Thank you for your quick response. Also I recently had a high powered stereo/subwoofer amp combo installed and I know that was pulling hard on my battery due to the dimming headlights.
Your right the first time I jumped it wrong at the battery and then I read the jump start directions. And I just went out and put a DMM on my battery at rest and it is reading 12.17 should I pull it and put it on a charger or replace it ?
Don't have to pull it to charge it. Question is, why is it low ? Like stated before. Need to have the battery and charging system tested.
Again. How old is the battery ? If over 3 or 4 years it would be wise to just replace it but still have the charging system checked.

Well, get a new battery and see if it fixes your idling issue. Also. Get the codes pulled BEFORE you disconnect the old battery. See if anything is stored there.
Once you disconnect the battery, any prior codes get cleared.
